vacation series! traveling with kids!

Well, we travel a lot. We recently made the trip from South East Texas to the SoCal region. On the Agenda- San Diego Comic Con (Jamie is covering... Eventually) Beach, Disneyland with kids and Disneyland 60th.  This post is traveling with small children.

So Eric (4) gets the privilege of being trapped in a car seat for 24 hours.  We left around 6 pm from Texas  and planned on driving straight though. Yes, we are all insane. I had an additional driver and we switched off.

Life saving prep- we all took showers and put on clean clothes and mucho deodorant before we left. Cars get stinky fast- especially with boys. We also loaded movies on a tablet for Eric's viewing enjoyment. Games apps on phones were also loaded, and Nintendo DS were packed. We also brought a few small toys to play with.  These were amazing! He had 3 movies to choose from, and when he wasn't sleeping he was occupied and not fussing. I also brought a horseshoe shaped pillow for his head- this helped him sleep in his car seat.

Also, there is a lot of age difference in my kids. Having big brother in the back seat helped. I could count on him and his super awesome girlfriend to help get the movies ready and make sure Eric was attended to. When Stephen was driving I sat in the back and tended to him.

We stopped often to tank up and use the restroom. For breakfast we stopped at the New Mexico Welcome Center. This was a super nice place to get out and stretch you legs. It also provided an opportunity to have Eric run around for a bit.

So- do your prep work, have movies and other entertainment to keep them occupied. Stop often to keep the natives from getting restless, and if you can time it during their sleep time that's great. Sleeping = quiet and no one likes a fussing kid.

Blog series! Vacation!

Ok so I have a few blogs saved up about my vacation. We can talk traveling with kids, traveling with teenagers, son's girlfriend and what to do if you like her best, throwing up in a new van and how to be courteous, Disneyland 60th, and Tsum Tsum the most addicting game ever.

Jamie is still working on her comiccon post- 10$ says she forgot it.

So tune in the next few days!

Totally ADHD moment- this just erupted from my sons mouth. "I haven't played with my fire staff in weeks!"

The nerd is strong with this one.

Soooo comic-con this past weekend; Jamie is working on a post from that. Disneyland yesterday, and I'll work on that after I recuperate. 24 hour car ride. TWENTY FOUR HOURS WITH 3 teenagers!!!!!  I'm still recovering.

Meanwhile I will leave you with this.

Why you should be watching Another Period.

Recently, Michael Eisner, the former CEO of Disney, made the comment that most women can't be beautiful and funny.

News flash! Phillis Diller, Joan Rivers, Carole Burnette, Lucy Ricardo, Tina Fey, Amy Pholer, just to name a few.

So now we have a tv show written by two very funny, very smart, very beautiful women- Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome. This show is a hybrid of satire, reality TV, and period drama. Better yet, it's hilarious!

I tried to recap it- but I just can't do the show justice. It's too brilliant for words. The characters are ones you love to hate, you root for them even though they're truly awful people.

And the Snoop Dog theme song? Well, that's just a sweet sweet bonus.

TV/games and whatnot

Jamie said she may do an app review for Line game Disney Tsum Tsums. That game is addicting and waaaaay better than candy crush.

Another period is on tonight on Comedy Central! It's so funny you have to watch it.

Now let's talk scandal. What's this about Ben Affleck and Jen Garner getting divorced? That's rather strange. She has turned a blind eye to most things. So I was ready my usual gossip fare and came across this blind riddle on Lainey Gossip.

Well that's interesting and timely....  I just love Lainey!

And now this! I love KFC even more now!!!!

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Tbt- parents should have left me to the wolves

I think I may have mentioned once or twice what a terrible child I was. So this throw back Thursday tale is one of mine.

Once upon a time, my mother was in the hospital birthing my sister. I was 5-1/2, and being cared for by my beloved grandmother, Momom Arnaud. She was doing something at the sink and I was sitting on the floor by her feet. Gran, in her dramatic fashion said, "Shelly, I sure wish I could make it to your high school graduation.." In my innocence, I asked how old she was, and how old I'd be when I were to graduate. I counted on my fingers, hey math is hard when you're 5! Looked up at her and very seriously replied, "No, Granny, you're not going to make it..."

My Gran loved this story, and actually told it at my high school graduation party- and my college graduation party.

Miss you, Gran.

Oh Keurig, why has thou betrayed me?

Man, I love my Keurig. The inventor of this genius idea needs several awards- STAT.  What? I can have a fresh cup of coffee without brewing a whole pot- I'm in. I drink coffee slowly, so by the time I get around to having a second cup it always tastes burnt.  I have an Elite brewing system- you know the one with a water reservoir.  I freaking love it. Today, I was low in the tank. I usually just add a bit more filtered water to it, but for some reason I decided to pull it out. Lo! For there was MOLD growing in the bottom. Green floaty mold!  Gross gross gross. Now, this is no fault of Keurig, if flat out says to clean it so often. I'm just lazy. Not very good when you live in an 80% humidity with and overall temperature of hot as hell. So I took it apart and cleaned it. It's currently soaking now. Poor Keurig. I'm sorry, I'll do much better, I promise! So, needless to say, I've had a cup o'mold every morning. Probably why my allergies are so bad.
