Let's talk about cognitive dissonance

So apparently they found a new human ancestor the other day.

Neat, right! Yeah not when you live in the Bible Belt. A great scientific discovery once again puts this area on the great big map of stupidity.  Fb comments such as, "science is all false And "It was put there by the devil to trick us!" Look- if you truly believe that then please stop reading because this blog is not for you.

It's ok- it's not their fault. They truly believe something so deeply that they cannot possibly process anything that may contradict their deeply held beliefs.

From Wikipedia-

Leon Festinger's theory of cognitive dissonance focuses on how humans strive for internal consistency. An individual who experiences inconsistency (dissonance) tends to become psychologically uncomfortable, and is motivated to try to reduce this dissonance—as well as actively avoid situations and information likely to increase it.[1]

So, there you have it. Now what do you do when you see an active fb argument and you can't help yourself? Well, if you're me you roll your eyes and scroll. If you are my blog counterpart, sometimes you engage and try to educate, but it's a losing battle. They do not want to hear something that contradicts their way of thinking. So- I made the below meme. Feel free to use it where you see fit.

And if you feel like it, pop on over to the fb comments on that article and enjoy.

Wtf Day Mail

I personally perfer British publications for my news sources. They don't have any political slants and it's very refreshing. What I DO hate is every time they have an article about a woman they have to have some sort of sexist slant. So and so shows her pins (legs for us U.S. Folks) in a skirt. My least favorite is when they are pregnant. Every single article headline is, pregnant so and so does blah. Why the hell do we need a constant reminder as to the state of her womb? Can she not have a headline based on her own merits (ok yeah Kim Kardashian maybe)? Is being pregnant the best a woman can get? I mean what does being pregnant have to do with anything? These articles have nothing to do with the pregnancy so why even mention it? It seems, well degrading. Let us go back to the times of being barefoot and pregnant with no hope for education.

Oh Keurig, why has thou betrayed me?

Man, I love my Keurig. The inventor of this genius idea needs several awards- STAT.  What? I can have a fresh cup of coffee without brewing a whole pot- I'm in. I drink coffee slowly, so by the time I get around to having a second cup it always tastes burnt.  I have an Elite brewing system- you know the one with a water reservoir.  I freaking love it. Today, I was low in the tank. I usually just add a bit more filtered water to it, but for some reason I decided to pull it out. Lo! For there was MOLD growing in the bottom. Green floaty mold!  Gross gross gross. Now, this is no fault of Keurig, if flat out says to clean it so often. I'm just lazy. Not very good when you live in an 80% humidity with and overall temperature of hot as hell. So I took it apart and cleaned it. It's currently soaking now. Poor Keurig. I'm sorry, I'll do much better, I promise! So, needless to say, I've had a cup o'mold every morning. Probably why my allergies are so bad.

Zomg! It's gonna rain!!!

What the hell is wrong with people? Actually, I don't think it is the masses as it is the news. It seems like the media had incited this mass hysteria over rain. Seriously! I've had people email me and say, because of the hurricane.... Ummmm no. There is no hurricane. At that time it was just an unnamed depression. I understand the need for caution, however, this panic before it's even anything is going to deaden everyone's reflexes. There was no water at the store- because rain? Look peeps, it's a tropical storm now, and that just means rain. Chill the F out. Media- please be responsible in your reporting. Inciting a mass hysteria over rain? Really? There is no need for a 24 hour watch for rain. I can't even.

Feminism and what not.

I was recently called a feminist. I, oblivious to all, had no idea that was considered a "bad thing". What's wrong with wanting equality? I don't think either gender should be put on a pedestal, and for that matter, I don't think either gender should be overly sexualized. I'm looking at you, Magic Mike. I didn't take my husbands last name - a lot of people think I'm weird. Why? Why should I have to change my identity? Is it nessecary? I'm not property, so no need to put me under the same surname. What about our kids? What about them? They can be hyphenated or we can agree to do one or the other. Honestly, does it make that much of a difference? They know who they belong to, and they can change it later if they wish. Who cares? Who really, honestly cares? I think I'll change my name to Princess Consuela Banana Hammock

Things I don't understand: maternity clothes

I swear, of all the maternity shirts I own all but one have horizontal stripes. Why? We are taught from birth that horizontal stripes are unflattering and make you look wide. So why do designers think it will look great on a pregnant body? I mean you're already uncomfortable, you've got that waddle, why draw attention to the girth? And you know what- sometimes the stripes don't fit just right and they look arched around the belly crating this bizarre optical illusion! Who lied to the designers and told them this was a fantastic idea? And for that matter, why are a lot of these shirts see through? I'm already hot because of harmones and extra weight, oh and TEXAS, why the hell would I was to wear a chemise? That's right, it's 110 outside with 90% humidity. Let's put on two shirts so I'm not indecent. Designers, you clearly have never been pregnant. Go home, you're drunk.

Wtf weds - rude!

What makes it ok for people to say to a pregnant woman, "you know what caused that, right?" I have heard that more times this pregnancy than ever. It pisses me off every time. Then to explain that this pregnancy was planned- not that it is any of their business, but now I feel obligated to explain. Regardless, is the situation of my womb your concern? Would you say that to any expectant mother? You don't know the circumstances behind the pregnancy, what if the woman was struggling with infertility? What if she had been the victim of rape?

And really wtf happened to a simple, "congratulations" ?

Wtf weds - dress code lunacy

Field trip to a water park. Should be easy right? Take a look at the dress code.

Girls can't show belly buttons. Really? Is this what we've come to? Boys are so animalistic that the mere sight of a hole, any hole, will drive them to distraction? It's just ridiculous. I can't even. Why can't they make everyone wear a tank top? But no, only girl belly buttons are offensive. Be careful, ladies! The slight glimpse of your belly button will cause you to drive men to distraction! Beware the hole!

Wtf- Car Tales

I want to know why teenagers think it's ok to do gross things in their car. Do the think no one can see them? Are they like toddlers and think if they can't see you you can't see them? News flash! You spending your red light time popping a zit- gross by the way- I can see you. I can see you examine your face in the mirror and perform the Deborah Harry Hairspray routine. It's disgusting. And what will you do with it? You can't wash your face or hands! That's just gross. Not only that, you're like 5 minutes from school. You'll have the red funk face for at least half an hour.  So please, do your face a favor and take care of that in the morning at home. I recommend Clean and Clear morning burst. Follow it up with some Lumene vitamin C cream (you can find at CVS) Then if you're oily, I recommend tarte make up. You can find at sephoria or ulta. Request a sample first though- you don't want to find out you have a reaction to the make up. Good news though, Sephoria has an amazing return policy and the people there are wonderful.

TL;DR: don't pop zits in the car. Wash your face. Sephoria is awesome.

Mistresses, wives and lawsuits, oh my!

Ok so first:

I don't know how I feel about this. So, a spouse can sue a gift receiptiant for the value of a gift? This opens the door to a lot of wiggle room. Does that mean that if I don't like that my hubs bought a video game without permission I can sue Microsoft because he didn't have written permission?  I mean we both work, we both make income. We should be able to disperse how we please. If I have my son a car, does that mean he can sue my son because I did it without permission? Me no likey.

I think the fairest thing to do would be divorce the rat bastard and sue him for the half of the gifts.

Things I don't understand- Dolman Sleeves

Don't worry, there's pictures. So, I went shopping and tried this shirt on. Lo and behold it was a flying squirrel shirt! Most ridiculous thing ever. According to the Internet (must be true! bonjour!) it is supposed to make your shoulders look slumped in order to make your waits look smaller. Not so much.  It reminded me of that warm up suit Vector wore on Despicable Me.

So here is a pic with arms down

And ready for take off!

I don't see a minimized waist.

*disclaimer- this is a mirror pic, so that mean 2 cameras. Since each camer adds 10 lbs, I'm really 20 lbs lighter.

I'm going to lose it one day.

What am I going to lose one day? My southern filter. You know, that little voice inside your head (that Jamie doesn't have) that says things such as, "bless your heart" and "most unfortunate" when you really just want to say "f*ck off".  As you may have seen from previous posts I have a love hate relationship with facebook. I love to watch the drama and hate the stupid equally. So the filter I am talking about is pertaining to fb. One day I am just going to lose it and type everything I think. Heh!

The Inquisitor: this person asks randoms questions on fb. Ex: Does anybody knows where I can find this one thing? Does anybody know where this event is happening?  I'm sorry, did you mean to type this in Google?

The Vaguebooker: this person is always hurt about something someone did- but never gives the details. Ex- You know who you are and what you did and I'm so hurt! Yeah, unless you're going to dish I don't care.

The Perfect Parent: this persons sole purpose on FB is to brag about their kids. That is their only posts. No one likes their kids that much. Seriously, NO ONE.

Of course there are others, I just did my top three. One day I'm just going to post what I think and enjoy the fall out. Till then, I will just continue my love hate relationship with FB. It's like a bad boyfriend.

HBO and Scientology

Soooo I can't wait for Going Clear, an HBO show about Scientology. It's supposed to be quite the exposé! I'm sure Tom Cruise is squirming now.  Supposedly HBO hired 160 lawyers in preparation for the fallout from Scientology. Now, this is an HBO documentary adaption that is based off of a book Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood and the Prison of Belief by Lawrence Wright. I have got to read that book. This documentary features interviews with ex-Scientology members. I'm really looking forward to it! It should be very interesting. This is a religion founded by a writer of science fiction! And they get tax exempt status! For interesting facts about how that was maintained- look up Operation Snow White. Going Clear airs on March 29th on HBO.  This ought to be good.
